Helping Serbia’s dogs

Dog food donated by Spanimal arrives at the shelter

Following up on our SOS Serbia article in September, we’ve received an update from Linda and her volunteers at Harborough Animal Concern who are spearheading the UK fundraising effort for Serbia’s animals.

Spanimal recently made a donation to SOS Serbia and this has helped Jelena’s Animal Shelter in Nis, Serbia. The contribution has gone towards vet bills, neutering, food supplies and a couple of kennels (the dogs all live outside and unless they have sufficient protection, can freeze to death during the winter). Conditions at the shelter are far from ideal and food is always in short supply. As can be seen in the accompanying photographs, part of our donation has helped purchase dried (and some wet) dog food which is mixed with water and bread.

As Serbia’s streets are already full of stray dogs, few can be rehomed in the country. Sadly only a few make it to good homes in Belgium and the Netherlands. The situation for dogs in the country is really quite desperate, however people like Jelena struggle on and they need your support!

How you can help:

Donations:
Given the difficulty in transporting supplies to Serbia, cash donations are usually the best way of making a difference. Cheques can be sent to: Jean Bird, Harborough Animal Concern, 7 Cedar Close, Kibworth, Leicestershire LE8 OHY, England. All donations will of course be acknowledged.

Jean also runs the Tail Wags Shop on eBay, a wonderful emporium of beautiful handmade jewellery, cards and stationery. All proceeds from her shop go to SOS Serbia. With Christmas just around the corner, get over to http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Tail-Wags-Shop and help Serbia’s dogs and cats!

For all enquiries regarding donations of food/wormers etc, please email Linda or ring her on 07803 198634.

Give a Serbian Dog a Cosy Christmas this year!
For just £80.00 you can give a Serbian dog a warm kennel this winter, complete with your custom dedication above the door. So forget that radio controlled flying shark or IPad.. give the gift that shows you care! Please contact Linda for more information.
