Spain to UK Animal Adoption Community

With the relaxation of the DEFRA rules from January 1, 2012, related to the importation of dogs and cats to the UK, we’ve created a new Facebook page to enable discussion on all aspects of rehoming Spanish animals to the UK. We’re hoping to create a network of individuals and rescue groups both in Spain and the UK willing to help in the coordination, transportation and adoption of these animals to caring homes in the UK. If you feel you have something to offer the group, please join us at

Rules change for importing Serbian dogs to UK

With regard to the changes to the DEFRA PETS Passport scheme for animals entering the UK from other EU countries, we were in contact with DEFRA today regarding bringing dogs and cats from Serbia. It would appear that the rules are also to be relaxed for Serbia.

DEFRA has confirmed that the dog will require the following if coming from Serbia to the UK from Jan 1, 2012:

- To be microchipped.
- Rabies vaccine.
- 30 days after rabies vaccination, a blood test is required to check immunity.
- EU pets passport  Veterinary certificate (for unlisted country)
- Tapeworm treatment between 1 and 5 days prior to entering UK.
- Animal can then travel 3 months after blood was drawn.

At present we understand that 6 months quarantine is required for dogs coming from Serbia.

We are not clear if these changes also affect other non-EU countries. DEFRA say they will be updating their website shortly. Watch this space!
